My name is Damhan. It’s a sort of Irish name so the pronunciation is a bit different than one might expect. A decent approximation is to say ‘Dawin’. There’s a long story behind that name, but suffice it to say that it honors an Irish princess from the middle ages who became a symbol of healing from mental disorders such as mental illness or epilepsy.
Since I was a child I have had severe and persistent mental illness, but I am fortunate to have found many sources of healing from that. I am not cured, but I am well. I’ve been able to work, buy a home, and live well in general. I’m not rich, but I do not want.
I am endlessly learning about pretty much everything. In order to stay well, I must be a student of healing in many ways, so I’ve developed an excellent ability to introspect. I can also read others extremely well, and I have a heightened intuition in general.
One of the best times of my life was when I worked professionally as a Certified Peer Support Specialist in the public mental health system to share my story and insight in a way that changed people’s lives. I still do that work, although now in my own practice. This blog exists to expand that work and perhaps share with others the wisdom that has been shared with me.
